drexelink story about us
posted on August 27th, 2008
Drexelink, our internal newsletter here published a little story about licensing of our technology. I just now got to posting it.
Well, here it is:

Oh, and here are two more stories related to this:
» read more in the Drexel University news, or
» read more in the Free Republic news (I much enjoyed reading the comments there).

So, even though I do not design anymore, I still design :-)
I made this logo and a shirt design for Drexel's Mechanical Engineering Graduate student Association (MEGA). They actually used it. Cool!

I'm also working on MEGA's web site but I have not yet finished it, so... Stay tuned for that one :-)

some updates
posted on August 8th, 2008
So, I've been adding some stuff here and there. Publications page is getting constantly updated with small stuff here and there. I'm writing some new poems but haven't posted them yet. Main thing, is why I'm writing this post, is that I've added hundred-some photos to the photo section so there will be a new daily one for some time from now. Hopefully I'll have time to add more to it so it will never run out.

gordon research conference
posted on August 3rd, 2008 about events on July 13-18th, 2008
14 students and 10 professors from the A.J. Drexel Plasma Institute were recently at the Gordon Research Conference on Plasma Processing Science (GRC-PPS) in Mt. Holyoke, South Hadley, MA from Jul 13th to Jul 18th 2008. 2008 GRC-PPS brought together leading authorities, as well as beginning researchers, engineers and scientists, in the area of plasma processing science to exchange information and ideas concerning the most recent advances and future directions in this field. 2008 GRC-PPS had a relatively small number of talks (approximately 30), which were at the leading edge of the field and promoted active discussion among all participants both inside and outside the formal sessions. The planned topics and invited speakers for the 2008 GRC-PPS reflected the interdisciplinary, applied nature of the subject, and geographic and ethnic diversity and minority representation of the science and technology of the field. Invited speakers came from industry and universities in the US, Western Europe, and South East Asia. The gathering of the experts and their discourse made up the broader impacts of the conference.

Dr. Nihat M. Bilgutay passed away today, July 1st, 2008.
Dr. Nihat M. Bilgutay passed away today after a long illness.
This is trully a sad day as Nihat was quite a personality. Great teacher, successful researcher, a wonderful person.
He was sick for quite some time, but his strength, even during the sicker moments was nothing short of impressive.
I've had a pleasure to meet Nihat many times and will surely remember him.
I wish him all success and luck in next life as he had in this one! We will all remember him with nothing short of great respect.

Today marks an interesting time point. Since I have started using gmail a year-or-so ago this is the first time that I got to the point of a clean mailbox.

I've taken care of every task there was in the inbox!!
and another site goes live
made a page for a friend
Moogega is a co-worker and a friend, so I decided to help her out with a design.

Plain. Simple. Easy to read. Easy to navigate. Easy for her to edit.

Gov. Bill Richardson visits Drexel to be honored by Eastern Technology Council.
Among other things, here you will find a short news clip where some of the Drexel Plasma Institute people are visible. I also included a few articles published on this matter by Drexel News services and by The Triangle (Drexel's newspaper).
Oh, let's not forget the big thumbs up that the Governor gives to Plasma :-)
Unfortunately I was unable to attend as I was out of town. Our lab was well-represented though. Good good.

how much money do i really need?
a simple estimate made on June 3rd, 2008 at 5pm and corrected at 7pm
I was asked why I am asking for the salary that I am asking for. So, sat down and calculated.
Well, the first try was no good — ended up needing $215K/year, not a very reasonable salary for a tenure-track faculty. Second try, however, turned out closer to reality.
Bottom line: I'm getting a BMW Series 1, 135i coupe. A very lovely car. Dark blue is nice, right?

new image rotator... of me! ;-)
posted on June 2nd, 2008
I've added Image Rotator to the top of the page. There used to be just one photo of me (this one) and I simply got tired of it. Now there are 148 of them :-)
Incidentally, since I've databased these images I am now counting views. Thus, you can tell how many times the site has been visited (total). So, since I added this thing 2 days ago there have been 3,371 visits to this page. Nice! Thanks for all the support! Glad to see people actually come here :-)

“A World Without Borders” — Snapshot Challenge (posted on April 21st, 2008).
Drexel University put together a “World Fusion Fest: A World Without Borders”.
Aside from many interesting activities, one which I partook in was the snapshot challenge – we got to submit a photo to be judged by students.
My submission received first prize, which makes me rather happy since this is the first photography-related event I partook in and won.

Now, there are many news prior to this date. However, they are somewhat lost at this point.
One day I might post the old news that I gather from links all over the place. For right now, this is it.
If you think I forgot something recent or for whatever reason, please email me at gregfridman@gmail.com.
Cheers,
Greg
